Retatrutide’s Phase 3 diabetes data published in The Lancet and presented at ADA 2026

Retatrutide’s Phase 3 program reached peer review this month: its first type 2 diabetes trial was published in The Lancet and presented alongside obesity data at the American Diabetes Association’s 2026 Scientific Sessions.

The diabetes trial, TRANSCEND-T2D-1, was published online in The Lancet on June 6, 2026. In 537 adults whose type 2 diabetes was inadequately controlled by diet and exercise, the trial reported mean reductions in A1c of roughly 1.7–1.9% across the 4 mg, 9 mg, and 12 mg doses versus about 0.8% on placebo over 40 weeks, with body-weight reductions of up to about 16.8%. These are reported trial endpoints, not outcomes for any individual.

The results were presented at the ADA’s 86th Scientific Sessions in New Orleans (June 5–8, 2026), together with topline obesity data from TRIUMPH-1 (reported mean weight loss of roughly 26–28% at 80 weeks on the higher doses). Retatrutide is an investigational GIP/GLP-1/glucagon triple receptor agonist; it is not FDA-approved, and the publication moves the compound from earlier company-reported toplines to peer-reviewed and conference-presented data.
